and counter-culture.
Until science proves otherwise, we only have one trip through this world and we should make the most of it. When I'm not at my desk consuming or creating digital content, I chase the opposite - analog endeavors where you build something with your hands, cut, wrench, upholoster, wire, plumb or dig.
Over the past few years, I have completed a ton of side projects - a full ground up camper van/mobile design studio, a vintage 1981 custom cafe racer, a modern/industrial renovation of our 1970s ranch house, a 20ft pondless creek w/ multiple waterfalls, an electric moto track and dirt jumps in the backyard. I had never attempted most of these things before, or any of the hundreds of steps needed to complete them, I just needed to do something different. I needed to try new things and feel something different. Every project that I took on was filled with struggle, frustration and learning, but there is a unique satisfaction that you get from creating a real-world, functional object that you can't find on any screen.
Through these projects I have learned that I create my best design work when I have a balance between analog and digital. A life lived completely, from one extreme to the other. For the forseeable future, I will be in a constant state of work/observation/adventure, seeking inspiration for the next round, revision or draft.
